> Around The World in a Piaggio P.180, With a twist!

As some of you know, I am taking a Around the World Trip using a Piaggio P.180. Here's the twist: Land and Sea must be visible at all times, except on the ground. That limits me to coastal airports, and makes for a very interesting route. My loads will be the fuel necessary, and 2 pilots (Me and... Let's call him Jim.) and 2 passengers, a friend and a press guy.
Excuse the quality of the shots. I don't have a supercomputer, and I'm not

So, we begin with the first leg. CYVR to PANC. A 1200 nautical mile trip. It's no problem for the Piaggio, with a range of up to 1700 nautical miles, or 1300 with 2 passengers and 2 pilots.

Parked at CYVR. I feel giddy!

Lined up on the runway, about to start our fantastic voyage.

We leave Canada behind. It's going to be a long time before I see it again.

I look back at Canada and begin to miss it, even 10 miles across the border.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But nobody's doing it in a Piaggio P.180 and only along coastlines, are they? rolleyes.gif

Thanks, everyone, for the quick replies and words of encouragement. If I have time, I should be able to do another leg today.

Okay, I finished up my second leg, the PANC to PAOM leg. 980 nautical miles, took about 2 hours and 40 minutes to finish.

Also, anyone know why the Flight Analysis starts and stops recording at sporadic times? I need some sort of route logger.

I had to go to another part of the airport to refuel, and by the time I got back, some guy stole my spot! Look at him, all smug in his Learjet.

Alright! Another tour in a GA airplane. I'm a bit jealous of the 980 nm taking you only 2 hours and 40 minutes, though biggrin.gif

Yeah, that's why I chose the Piaggio. Fast, economical, and still a GA aircraft.
I remember one day I was walking home, and I heard a weird airplane noise. I looked up, and there was a Piaggio P.180. My first reaction was "Hwaha!?" due to the noise, the speed, and the wings. This thing has real slender wings.

Continental, I googled it with "Mario Noriega Piaggio P.180" and I found a package at Simviation. It should work.

I'm currently doing the 3rd leg, the PAOM-UHMA leg. More details to follow!

I finished PAOM (Naom or something) to UHMA (Ugolny, or Anadyr) in 2 hours, covering 600 nautical miles. I faced a crazy crosswind on landing. First it was coming from the right, then the left, then down the runway, then it stopped. Crazy winds!

Leaving behind PAOM in the haze.

Sexy shots, I love the P 180. What model is that?

It's a model by Mario Noriega. Google "Mario Noriega Piaggio P.180" and you should find a package at simviation, or you could just get the base model from Avsim without the gauges. Happy flying!

I just finished my 4th leg. UHMA (Anadyr/Ugolny) to UHPP (Petropavlosk/Yelisovo) in 3 hours, 10 minutes, covering a distance of 950 nautical miles in 3 hours, 10 minutes. I had a ###### of a time since there was a thunderstorm going on in Kamchatka. Any plane below FL220 would get tossed around like a fish. It nearly flipped the Piaggio once! Needless to say, my friend got sick (Not over the leather seats!) and the press guy got mad. It was nicer down in Petropavlosk, even though I had a 90 degree crosswind.

On a side note, this was a hasty planning. It was originally going to go West, as you can see in the route, but that would leave me with a ludicrously long leg to Japan that would probably leave my poor Piaggio starved for fuel. Instead, I took a route to Kamchatka, which has the same distance for this leg, but would leave the next leg much shorter.

Rotating at Ugolny.
