> Around the World - With a Twist, Summer project

Okay, it's summer, and I'm off school. I am officially bored.
So, I took cue from the rest of you, and decided that an Around The World flight would be nice, since I barely get off the North American continent.
But, instead of a boring, regular one, I've decided to add a twist.
The land, and the sea must be visible at all times, unless hopping continents, or when it is geographically impossible. All continents must be visited.

The plane I will be using is the Piaggio P.180 Avanti.
It has a range of 1,400 nm with reserves, so it can make a hop around Greenland and Alaska. It has a max speed of 400 knots, and a cruise speed of 350 knots, while being fuel economic, so that's awesome.

I don't have FSPassengers or any of that to liven it up, just FSnavigator to plot the routes and such. The in-game real world weather will be used, unless someone can point me out to a freeware weather thing.

My starting airport will be CYVR, and I'll be heading North, and eventually to Asia, heading down to Australia, back up to Asia, through India, heading to Dubai for kicks, head down and around Africa, then visit select European places.

That being said, any airport requests, comments, tips, pointers, and/or general well-wishing?

Okay, I've finished the general route that I'm taking. The Antarctica runway is too short, so I ditched that idea and bypassed most of South America. Africa would be really hard to do due to runway limitations and range issues, so I just touched by about 5 points. I had to go in a direct route into inland Greenland due to there being no airports in the north or south big enough to support the Piaggio. What it makes in range and speed, it loses in runway capabilities. I followed Australia close though, and the outline shows amazing detail. Also, there's a little black line running inland into Mexico. That's just a special case where I go into Guadalajara to visit my family. tongue.gif

Anyways, here are some maps to show the route:

Well you say "all continents must be visited" but I don't see you landing in Antartica, and yes it is a continent. tongue.gif

You should stop at PWM, unless you are already planning to? It looks like you are passing directly over it.

I ditched Antarctica. It would take too long to get there because of the South American terrain, and getting back up to the Northern Hemisphere would be just as tough, nevermind that Antarctica's runways are too short.

Also, could you give me the first letter in PWM? I pass over a lot of countries, you know. tongue.gif

Also, a note to anyone requesting, make your requests feasible. I'm not going to divert more than 500 nautical miles from my course, since any more would mean reworking my entire route. Yes, the route is that sensitive. Any airports you want me to visit need to have a runway 4000 feet or longer.
Although, if your airport is less than 200 nautical miles from the nearest scheduled airport that I haven't visited, then I'll divert there. If your airport is in the way of the route, or at most, 50 nautical miles from the path, I'll do a touch and go.

Thanks for the support.

I'll see what I can do. My first flight will be tomorrow, as I'm getting comfortable with my P.180 model. It is very, very, very good and flashy, but it has a few errors with the gauges, but it's all vapor and the plane works fine.

EDIT2: Aw geeze. I feel like an idiot. I thought you meant Portland Oregon.
Yes. I do stop pretty close to your airport. I'll divert it, just for you.

Yes! Portland, Maine that is, not Oregon. tongue.gif Portland, OR is KPDX. PWM would appear about here on your route:

Thanks for the support everyone.

Some quick stats, according to FSnav:

Fixes (Including airport stops, and this is rough, as in very rough):
486.

Hours spent:
180, give or take 2 or 3.

Nautical Miles travelled: 70,000, give or take 2,000.

Average time spent on each leg:
1.5 to 2.5 hours each

Average distance on each leg:
800 nautical miles

Usual size of runways:
7000 feet. It'd be about 5000 feet, but the bleakest places have the absolute biggest runways.

Sorry there, Continental. If I go through the Gulf of Mexico, that means a lot more stops for me, and I get less of a chance to see South America. Sorry again.

And here's some screenshots to give everyone a taste of the screenshots. This is under medium-low settings, and will probably be jacked up for the actual trip.

You wanna stop in Burbank, CA? Its like 15 miles north of LAX, KBUR is the ICAO. Its a cool little airport.

Continental: I got this P.180 from Simviation as a package. The standalone product you can get from avsim and plenty of other places is just the model, the panel, and the VC. The problem with the standalone is that it requires gauges not included in the regular version, but the gauges are included in the Simviation package. If you do get gauge problems, just ignore them.

onthescopes: No problem. I was going to make a stop in Los Angeles anyways. It's going to be a big leg though.

Yes, I can stop there. It'll fix a big problem I have about fuel if I go there too.
Okay, the first leg will start in about an hour or two, and I'll make a thread in the screenshots forum.

I'm currently somewhere over the very south of Alaska. A real-life Piaggio flew over my house about 20 minutes ago, so that's a good sign.

Anyways, don't worry about Australia. If your city or airport is pretty close to the ocean, rest assured I'll probably land there. It's so bleak that all the major airports are covered by my route. biggrin.gif
