Many people have been talking about bringing this forum into a new heyday. Why not spark that off with a nice long flight on Flightsimworld's own Multiplayer Server. We are looking for as many people to be there as possible, even those who usually fly VATSIM. This event is for fun and to help with restoring this forum's former pride and glory. We would be performing the long haul route KLAX-VHHX in, what else, but heavy metal. We want everyone to come so below are links to preparing your computer for Multiplayer, as well as where to find freeware scenery for Kai-Tak airport, and finding some good jets to fly.

But before the links, we need the logistics of the event. The event would be kicked off early Saturday April Fourth 2009 at 1500 Zulu time. The starting airport will be Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX) and the ending airport will be Kai-Tak international airport. The routing will be determined soon and posted in this topic. The approximate length of this flight will be 14 hours.

Congiguring Ports for FSHOST servers

Connecting FSX to an FSHOST game

Each of these give you all the information to fly upon the server. The server's IP address is 64.85.160.87.

Links to Scenery and Jets.

9Dragons Kai-Tak Scenery. This is wonderful freeware scenery for all of Hong Kong Island. It portrays Kai-Tak airport in the late 1990s with Chep Lap Kok Airport in construction. The Scenery is quite detailed and can be heavy on the frames for those of you without a high end computer. (I can manage about 18 FPS with the Posky 777 and no weather).
Sid/Stars can be found on AVSIM for those who use them

Fly-Tampa's Kai-Tak Fly Tampa's rendition of Kai-Tak is a payware product, but can be judged by looking at the screenshots on the website. I do not own it so I cannot say much about it. http://www.flytampa.org/

Jets for the Event

Project Opensky Project Opensky is home to some of the best freeware aircraft available for the Flight Simulation Community. Their 777 (Which I will be flying for this event) has a wonderful Virtual Cockpit, of which is only rivaled by the Captain Sim 757. http://www.projectopensky.com/downloads-index.php

Payware There are many payware companies that have jets with the range, such as PMDG and Just Flight and Level D Simulations.

Hope to see you all there

I'm definitely in, and will provide ATC for those who need it. smile.gif My screen name will be Buziel-411 (RED).

Alaska: As I asked in the PM, where is a good place to view airline routes between VHHH and KLAX? (Other than Flightaware)

Right now I'm searching for airlines that fly LAX to VHHH, although Flightaware doesn't have very good coverage of the new Hong Kong airport. In that case, to Orbitz! laugh.gif

767, you will need careful fuel management. Good to see you coming.

Meh, I'll make it depending on how the routing is done, if not I'll go with something that can carry more fuel..... happy.gif

What in the name of god is the point of using a real-world route if there aren't any VATSIM controllers to amend it?

THis is a group flight for FSW, on VATSIM, you cannot get planes that close to each other. Real world routing just so we have a defined route. Who knows, maybe we will try some formation flying at 35,000 feet.

That would be cool. It doesn't matter to me how we get there as long as we get there. If the route is around 6200nm the 767 can make it... If it's more then I'll have to go with something like the MD11 or the 744. I haven't decided which one though.

*EDIT*

I can just imagine how the TCAS would go nuts in a formation flight. wacko.gif

Everytime we create a topic like this, you're here to nag. If you don't have anything to useful to add to the event, then leave the topic.

Well, even if you could come on for just a little while, it would be great. smile.gif

BTW, is 1500 Zulu time 9:00 AM Central US Time?

I will definitively come, for now, it's time to practice, buy a PMDG747X, and VHHX scenery. That's $100 right there. sad.gif

Anyone know a guide for landing there in a PMDG747X? I'm gonna need to practice big time, I haven't been there for over 10 years!
